SC Bar Pro Bono Program is sponsoring “Law School for Non-Lawyers” From (WAGT/WRDW) Augusta

The South Carolina Bar to sponsor Law School for Non-Lawyers in Aiken.

The SC Bar Pro Bono Program is sponsoring “Law School for Non-Lawyers,” a seven-week program designed to give the public an overview of the South Carolina legal system and insight into common legal problems people face, according to a press release.

The series will be held on Thursday, Sept. 15 until Oct. 27, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. each night at Aiken Technical College (2276 Jefferson Davis Hwy., Graniteville 29829). The deadline to enroll is Tuesday, Sept. 13, at noon.

The course will cover the following topics:

Sept. 15—Overview of state courts and alternative dispute resolution

Sept. 22—Juvenile justice and overview of child protection hearings

Sept. 29—Family law, real estate and landlord-tenant law

Oct. 6—Wills, estates and probate, health care and elder law

Oct. 13—S.C. workers’ compensation and employment law

Oct. 20—Bankruptcy law, consumer law and debt collection

Oct. 27—Criminal law and torts law
